❥ Name: Goro Akechi
❥ Canon: Persona 5: Royal
❥ Canon Point: At the end of the true end
❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A
❥ History: Wikia❥ Personality: Akechi is pretty charismatic when it comes to the public side of things. He's lived his entire life behind a mask to be accepted by somebody due to his upbringing and family problems. He's done this for so long that he probably has no idea what it's like to be 100% himself anymore after living a lie for so long.
He's built his entire life for the sole purpose of gaining Shido's trust so that he could get revenge. The other reason is to make people want him around. He's built up his fame, popularity, charisma, grades, and skillsets for that reason. In the end, he failed and died before being able to complete his life-long goal, realizing that even
he can make mistakes when it comes to observations.
Realizing that you're entire life has been for nothing will be a lot for him to take in. How do you be yourself when your entire personality was built on a lie? How much of that was part of his alter ego? In Royal, he seems to take things a lot better than expected but is a lot more apt to lash out. In Royal, you don't really see him interact with the public, so you do see him act a lot more violent and abrasive in Maruki's palace. That may be because -- despite Sumire being around -- the other know who he really is and has no reason to hide it behind fake smiles and pleasantries. He'll likely fall back into the "Second Detective Prince" role around anyone who doesn't know him well enough at first as a safety net.
Akechi seems pretty put together on the surface, but like most people, he has a few flaws and weaknesses to take into account. The main one to keep in mind is the fact that Shido discarded him and his mother killed herself while he was young. This plays a huge part in his personality as well as his life direction. He was so hell-bent on revenge that nothing else mattered to him.
As a result of not having the proper support from family or those around him, he's always been on his own to deal with problems. As such, he's even come to discard the idea of having friends, as his fight with the others revealed when they tried to convince him to work together; They all wanted the same goal, just not in the same way. He's always had fans ever since he began to grow more popular as a detective prince, but he's never actually gotten close to anyone overall.
With no proper support in his life, he's never really had someone there to help him through all the hard times in his life in a healthy matter. When you don't have proper guidance, it's easy to go down the wrong path even if you have good intentions or reasons to act the way you do. Futaba is a good example of how having the proper guidance and support could make a huge difference in your life.
Living his life to become someone who people wanted to have around them and not who he really was deep down inside also shows that he's gotten so used to repressing how he really feels. Having that stripped from you makes it hard to know where to start when you're getting back on your feet. He desperately wants to be loved by others and will do anything to make people want him around, even if it means acting a certain way to meet the expectations people have of him.
Akechi is highly intelligent and an honor student despite missing a good amount of school due to his detective work and interviews. Overall he seems to be a pretty likable, charismatic guy that makes him very popular with the public. We know these characteristics of his are due to his wish to be accepted, thus taking on an alter ego to make sure that others want him around. He plays a very well thought out role of a detective who only desires to find out the truth behind the Mental Shutdowns. Whoever is responsible for this -- be it a single person or a group of Phantom Thieves -- should be brought to justice in the legal system.
Too bad that alter ego of his is nothing like his own desires. He has his own ulterior motives that involve taking down his father, Masayoshi Shido. The plan was to wait until he reached the pinnacle of his career before tearing it all down in revenge. Having never gotten close to anyone in particular, he doesn't seem to care that he's killed many lives (even if they were shitty adults). He only cares about his own agenda and motives. If it doesn't suit his needs, there's no reason to stick his neck out to help another person out of "kindness."
All that matters to him is that he can meet his goals; The how doesn't matter to him. He's not afraid to use violence, so as long as he isn't tracked to the crime. He's a guarded, manipulative person who's let his jealousy and anger get the best of him. He would sooner die than allow anyone else to manipulate his life like he's been all these years by Shido. In Royal, he was given the option to live in Maruki's Actualization where he's still alive but refused to do so, knowing full well of what that meant for him if they took him down. He would rather disappear again than to allow Ren to make the decision to take Maruki's deal.
"Friends" only get in the way and are much more of a nuisance than they are pleasant to be around. He doesn't need anyone else in his life, or so he believes. Behind those walls that he puts up, he's emotionally stunted. He's resentful to those who manage to have less success than him but yet are still able to receive more support.
If nothing else, he's at least extremely resilient when it comes down to getting one step closer to his goal. He'll fight to the end to see his goal come to fruition. He'd already been working as a "detective" for two years with the use of his abilities. His persistence wasn't over the course of a few months or a year, but many years and plans in the making. The Phantom Thieves becoming so popular really put a dent in his plans.
❥ Abilities:+ Very intuitive
+ Good at problem solving
+ Very smart
+ Strong
+ Has 2 Personas (but I don't plan on bringing them here)
❥ Extras: Akechi is not good with spicy food. All he needs for items would be the clothing on his back upon arrival and an extra pair of black leather gloves. Akechi would fit Rawna best for a God to support.
